FORMER city council leader Cllr Mike Storey was last night inaugurated as the new Lord Mayor of Liverpool.
Cllr Storey, the longest-serving member of the authority, took over the reins and chains from Cllr Steve Rotheram at the “mayor-making” ceremony at the town hall.
Cllr Storey said “justice, honesty, and fairness” would be the themes of his year in office.
He added: “I will at all times act in the best interests of the city. I also want to thank the people of this city who have surprised me by voting for me in a large number of elections during my time. Liverpool is an amazing place with amazing people.
“I shall make children and young people the focus of my year as Lord Mayor.”
