MERSEY MPs have attacked plans by United Biscuits to axe 53 jobs at its Binns Road site, in Wavertree, and move the work to India.
Labour MPs Jane Kennedy, George Howarth, Joe Benton and Eddie O’Hara were among 32 members who signed an early day motion condemning the proposal.
Unite the Union regional officer, Debbie Brannan, said: “The support of MPs is heart-warming for the workforce, but is also an important statement that the Commons is concerned about companies that expect to sell in Britain but do not treat British workers with decency and respect.
“The union wants more time to consider the proposals and is also considering a legal challenge, claiming no meaningful talks have taken place.”
United Biscuits said 51 jobs are in danger because two new roles will be created.
