WIRRAL Council last night confirmed it had backed down on bills sent to residents for clearing up a road which was left strewn with debris after a rooftop vandal attack.
Wallasey MP Angela Eagle stepped into the dispute after the residents of Hillcroft Road were presented with the bill for emergency repairs by the council.
Residents had been the victims of two yobs who ripped off roof tiles and hurled them into the street damaging cars and homes.
Victim Debbie Williams said her roof cost around £6,000 to repair.
She said: “As well as consoling my six-year-old daughter, who is still traumatised by the event, I have the worry of the financial cost.
“Getting a bill from the council felt like an insult.”
“People in the road have decided enough is enough and we’re not paying any more money out for these new bills.”
