A CAMPAIGN to clamp down on under-age drinkers in Knowsley is getting under way for summer.
Parents are being encouraged to look out for their children, as part of Knowsley Council’s Get Real campaign, by refusing to buy alcohol for their teenagers and reminding adults caught buying alcohol for under- 18s could face a £5,000 fine.
Cllr Ken Keith, Knowsley Council’s cabinet member for corporate and customer services, said: “While the majority of parents are completely responsible, there are some who go out to buy alcohol for their children or purchase it for young people waiting in and around off-licence premises.
“This has to stop. Through our Get Real Campaign, we have the support of licensees, who are asking for proof of age and refusing sales, which is helping to reduce under-age drinking.”
