Liverpool music industry ‘getting more and more important’ to region

He said: “When I was younger, I didn’t have the confidence to walk up to someone who was, for example, the head of a record label.

“We had to work out how we overcame that, and came up with the Meet The Buyer events. North West businesses met high-level executives from all over the world, and we set up individual meetings for all of them to make sure they got something useful out of it.

“The feedback from the local and international businesses was that it was a really useful event.”

UKTI music sector adviser Phil Patterson hailed the opportunities: “Music is a major UK export, worth around £1.9bn annually, and we know that companies that export are more resilient.

“Liverpool Sound City isn’t just about great gigs – it’s a fantastic opportunity for locally-based music companies to connect with senior industry executives from the US, Germany, Japan, Scandinavia and elsewhere.”
