Motorists may pay penalty for in-car passion

AS MANY as 12% of drivers use their cars as “lovemobiles” to indulge in passion with their partners, a poll today showed.

This amorous in-car behaviour is just one of a list of bad driving habits, according to the survey by AutoTrader.co.uk

Based on responses from more than 2,700 motorists nationwide, the survey revealed that 41% of drivers admitted to talking or texting while driving.

Also, 72% ate or drank at the wheel, 85% listened to loud music, 64% used a sat nav while at the controls and 93% changed CDs or radio stations while driving.

In addition, 62% admitted to shouting and gesticulating at other motorists, while 22% smoked while at the wheel.

As many as 60% rated their driving ability as good and a quarter as excellent, although more than 20% had penalty points on their licences.

AutoTrader marketing director Matt Thompson said: “Drivers are potentially at risk of not concentrating on the road.

“With more than 60% continuing to undertake distracting tasks while driving, many motorists are at risk of picking up endorsement points, which will ultimately lead to increased insurance premiums.”
