Paul Larkin
The move will sting Sefton’s Labour group, which sees Bootle as a dyed-in-the-wool stronghold. The area’s MP, Joe Benton, holds the safest Labour seat in the country after securing 75.5% of the vote, with more than 19,300 ballots going his way.
Cllr Dowd told the Daily Post: “I don’t want to get into a slanging match about Paul Larkin. I think he is profoundly wrong on his view.
“He is completely out of touch with the investment which has gone into that area. He has never spoken to me about the reasons why he wants to resign.”
Lib-Dem leader Cllr Tony Robertson said: “I welcome Paul to the party and look forward to working with him.
“I am pleased that he feels the Liberal Democrats are the best party to get things done and the best opposition to Labour.”
