Hot weather boosts visitor attractions as Superlambananas return to Liverpool for Queen Square car park picnic
BRIGHT sunshine attracted huge numbers to Merseyside’s tourist hotspots over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Thousands more visitors than expected headed off to watch the animals soaking up the sun at Knowsley Safari Park and Chester Zoo yesterday.
As the top attractions celebrated big visitor numbers, temperatures in Crosby and other parts of the region peaked at 18 degrees.
Rachael Ashton, spokeswoman for Chester Zoo, said the zoo experienced one of its busiest days of the year yesterday.
She said: “We had 12,000 visitors yesterday and it was similar on Sunday.
“We expected 8,000 to 10,000 people, so it was well over that. We were really pleased.
“When the sun is shining, the zoo is very busy. There were a lot of happy people, eating ice creams and watching the animals.”
Crowds also passed through the gates at Knowsley Safari Park.
