Police act over tourists’ habits

SEVENTEEN British holidaymakers have appeared in a Greek court after being arrested for wearing nun’s outfits.

The men – who were also wearing women’s lingerie – spent a night in police cells in Crete wearing their outfits after being held for “scandal and misrepresentation of a costume or uniform”.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said it was understood charges were dropped against the group after they appeared before a prosecutor yesterday.

The tourists, ranging in ages from late teens to “about 60”, were led into the courtroom still dressed in their nun costumes.

They had been in police custody since their arrest in the early hours of Sunday in the seaside holiday town of Malia.

The British Embassy said the prosecutor dropped all charges.
