Widness teenager airlifted to hospital after quarry fall

A TEENAGE girl was airlifted to hospital after falling into a Merseyside quarry.

The 19-year-old was rescued from the pit, in Pex Hill Country Park, north of Widnes, by fire crews and paramedics.

A waiting helicopter then flew her to Whiston Hospital.

Medics feared she suffered spinal injuries in the fall. They were called to the scene at around 4.30pm on Saturday.

The quarry’s sheer rock faces are popular with rock climbers, some of whom attempt to scale the faces without safety ropes.
