Haq’s 166 can’t save Birkenhead St Mary’s

A KNOCK of 166 by Mizan Haq could not save Birkenhead St Mary’s in the Bromborough Paints Merseyside and Southport Alliance derby at Paton Field on Bank Holiday Monday.

Caldy got home by four runs with their main contributors being Kirk Bunting 94, Jason Cooper 50 and Mohammed Sohail 6-32.

Whitefield head the table after an eight wickets success at Norley Hall. Tarik Afridi claimed 4-30 and Rafa Afridi reached 64 not out. Best for Norley was Chris Green with an unbeaten 56.

Alder suffered a first defeat by 54 runs at home to Sutton. Ray Foster claimed 6-18 for the winners and Rob Hughes made 41. Alan Durand bowled well for Alder for a 5-18 return.

Southport Trinity whipped Moorfield by 209 runs. Wim Van der Walt hit 136 not out in a 231 total before Tony Hall with 5-9 including a hat-trick helped dismiss the home side for a dismal 22.

Ian Brown with 5-26 helped Haydock see off Maritime by six runs. Best for the losers were Alagiah Suthakaran 5-45 and Sinnathamby Karunanithy 48.

Trevor Fabien 96, Nigel Pearle 42 and Laurence Mason 5-43 were chief contributors for Prescot & Odyssey in a 92 runs success over Huyton.

Graham Jones 41 and Grant Hughes 6-22 helped Parkfield Liscard inflict a first defeat on Wavertree for whom Narender Negi took 5-49 and Josh Birch struck 46.
