John Lennon and Yoko Ono exhibition gives peace a second chance

JOHN LENNON’S famous peace protest is being brought back to life in a new exhibition at the Beatles Story.

Photographs of the former Beatles’ Bed-In For Peace, carried out with his wife, Yoko Ono, went on display at the Albert Dock museum yesterday.

The collection of more than 40 images includes pictures of the couple lying in bed holding flowers as well as of the hand-written signs in their room.

Jerry Goldman, Beatles Story managing director, said: “The images in this exhibition represent vividly John’s unwavering belief in the goodness of people to make peace, not war, and remains as important now as it was in 1969.

“We are hugely excited to welcome this exclusive exhibition to the Beatles Story for its European premiere.”

Yesterday marked the 40th anniversary of the famous Montreal Bed-In for Peace, when Lennon and Ono spent a week in Suite 1742 in the Canadian city’s Queen Elizabeth Hotel. Photojournalist Gerry Deiter became the eyes and ears in their hotel room, becoming the only one to document the whole eight days.

As well as the unusual events taking place in front of his lens, he aimed to capture the essence of the love between the newly wedded John and Yoko.
