Young Liverpool anglers get the hook in Calderstones Park

BUDDING anglers learnt about responsible fishing at an event in Calderstones Park yesterday.

They got the chance to catch some of the tench, carp, roach and perch that live in the park’s lake.

The 30-minute sessions were one of many “green events” organised over half term by Liverpool City Council to encourage families to explore their local parks and gardens.

Cllr Phil Moffatt, the council’s assistant executive member for the environment, said: “This is a fantastic event and a perfect day out for the family. You can enjoy the taster sessions and stay in the park and have a picnic.

“The great thing is that not only do you learn about fishing in a fun way from a group of experts, but it also gets across the serious message about responsible angling and how important it is for us to make sure Liverpool has healthy fish stocks.”

THE “A Cast in the Park” session will run again today from 10am to 3pm. To take part, register by calling the Ranger Service on 0151 233 3007 or sign up at the lake.

Approximately 2,000 people in Liverpool are registered on Liverpool’s Angler’s Card database.
