Beatles early history through the lens as Mike McCartney provides taster of Liverpool exhibition

INTIMATE early photographs of the Beatles and striking portraits of The Scaffold have gone on show at World Museum Liverpool.

The quartet of images from Mike McCartney make up a “mini exhibition” as part of The Beat Goes On display.

They are a small example of a much larger number of McCartney photos due to go on show at the Museum of Liverpool when it opens in 2010.

The 65-year-old photographer said: “It’s a teaser for next year.

“I thought I’ve got to give Liverpool, as my legacy, my homage to my own city which has given me so much, something back.”

McCartney is in discussion with museum chiefs over the way the images – which will feature scenes from the 1960s to the present day – will be displayed.

One of the pictures currently on show, features Paul McCartney, John Lennon, and Mike McCartney running his fingers along the top of a piano.
