PETA award for fire crews who saved Penny, the Wirral mare trapped in mud

THE fire crews who rescued a Wirral pony from drowning in mud have been given a Hero to Animals award from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) Europe.

Earlier this month, Croxteth Fire Service was called to the Barnston Riding Centre, in Wirral, after seven-year-old mare Penny was discovered trapped up to her neck in mud. After trying unsuccessfully to use a tractor to pull Penny out, the rescue crew finally managed to pull her out.

The Croxteth Fire Service will receive a certificate and letter of appreciation from PETA.
