THE £1.5m PDSA PetAid centre, Kirkdale, was officially opened by HRH Princess Alexandra.
The Celia Street surgery, named the Jeanne Marchig Centre after the charitable trust which supports it, first opened its doors in September to replace the old Everton centre.
The PDSA provides free veterinary services to pet owners who cannot afford private care for their pets.
The new Kirkdale hospital is able to treat up to 180 sick and injured pets every day, with 9,500 animals registered on its books.
It is equipped with solar panels and rainwater recycling.
The Princess took a tour of the new facilities, which include six consulting rooms, a digital X-ray room, and a critical care ward. The surgery is also equipped with separate recovery wards for cats, dogs, and smaller animals.
