Swine flu - new case confirmed in Liverpool

A FOURTH case of swine flu has been confirmed in Merseyside today.

The man, from Liverpool, is being treated with antivirals at his home, and is said to be making a "good recovery".

A Health Protection Agency (HPA) spokeswoman said the case is being investigated, but was unable to confirm whether the man had recently returned from Mexico.

A statement added: "The patient is being treated with antivirals and is making a good recovery at home.

"Close contacts including family contacts are also being treated with antivirals.

"Casual contacts of the confirmed case are being given information on flu and advised to contact their GPs or NHS Direct if they should develop symptoms."

The case follows three other confirmed cases in Merseyside- a husband and wife from Sefton and a Wirral man.

All had recently visited Mexico, believed to be the source of the virus.

People with concerns should contact NHS Direct on 0845-4647.
