Everton FC FA Cup Final: 10,500 miles couldn’t stop Evertonian Rob

EVERTON fans came from far and wide to watch the Blues at Wembley.

Rob Trowler had waited 14 years to see the team in an FA Cup final and was not going to miss it.

Rob, 28, is originally from Heswall but moved to Sydney, Australia, two years ago to pursue his career in accountancy.

The former Gwladys Street season ticket-holder has spent two years rising in the early hours to watch Everton games on TV at his Bondi beach home and proudly wears his blue shirt on the beach.

When the club reached the final, he was determined to be there – but realised he had no holiday allocation left from work.

So Rob arranged to fly from Sydney, arriving in London in the early hours of Friday morning, go to the big game and fly home yesterday morning.

He spent more time in the air during his 48 hour round-trip than he did on the ground.

He said: “I went to the FA Cup final in 1995 as a 14-year-old and couldn't miss the chance to go again after a 14-year wait.

“It is a long trip but definitely worth it for the excitement of the day. And it’s all gone on the credit card.”

Not to be outdone, Rob’s brother Philalso flew in to watch the game – from Los Angeles.
