Child porn found on Southport man's computer

OBSCENE images of children were found on a man's computer when he handed into a repair shop, a court has heard.

Malcolm Darley, 43,had bought a new computer, but contacted Southport expert Mark Owen about transferring some files from his old machine.

Liverpool crown court heard when Mr Owen began to transfer the files he discovered much of it was adult pornography.

But as he carried out the process he noticed indecent images of children among the files.

Neville Biddle, prosecuting, said: "Much of the information on the 'Malcolm' account was not text, but photographs.

"A lot of it was adult pornography, but there was also some child pornography amongst the adult pornography."

Mr Owen handed the computer into Southport police station and Darley, formerly of Southport, was arrested on April 17, 2007.

Mr Biddle told the court a police computer expert examined the machine and discovered a total of 59 indecent pictures and 12 obscene movies.

Experts also discovered a file sharing programme on Darley's computer which enabled him to view pictures with other users.
