In Liverpool city centre children once again revelled in the fountain at Williamson Square which has been closed for a year following problems with piping.
But sunbathers were also warned to be careful following a rise in emergency call outs.
A spokeswoman for the Coastguard said: “People seem to let go of their senses when the weather gets hotter. We had missing children, missing parents, people stuck in the mud and those caught out by the tide.
“Judging by the colour of some of those walking around on the beach there were probably a few cases of sun stroke as well.”
