“The children might not be eating nutritious food and families are going to the chip shop. Maybe there are issues with the behaviour of the children.
“This is trying to look at a whole range of issues.”
The DCSF called for councils to apply for money to run the Child Poverty Local Authority Innovation Pilots in November 2008.
Funding for the project is ring-fenced and depended on Sefton Council putting in an acceptable plan.
It is likely that the project will be renamed “Promoting Parents’ Pilot for Southport” in recognition that the term “child poverty” could cause social stigma.
The project will employ a project manager, three family coaches, a claims information support officer, an employer liaison officer to work with established teams who already help the jobless, and another person to issue employment advice.
Councillors were discussing the scheme at a meeting today in Bootle.
