Local people told to trust council on Mersey Gateway toll discounts

Sutton Parish Council express traffic worries at Mersey Gateway Inquiry

SANDRA Spruce, speaking on behalf of Sutton Parish Council, said the 400-residents of Sutton Weaver Village were concerned about traffic.

While they support the idea of a second bridge, they are opposed to the associated infrastructure which could lead to more vehicles passing through their village on the A56.

Mrs Spruce said there were worries people would avoid the tolls and use the village as a rat-run.

In response, project director Steve Nicholson said no increase in traffic was forecast with a modest reduction expected.

Mrs Spruce was told traffic claming measures fell outside the remit of the project.

They fall under the control of Cheshire West and Chester Councils.
