Three years of roadworks on Liverpool’s Strand come to an end

Cllr Bradley said: “It’s phenomenal the work that has gone on.

“We want to make sure where possible we don’t have the road works that stop the movement, but you can never say never.

“I have to say, as frustrating as it is, Liverpool is no different to other cities across the UK and Europe I have visited in that regard.

“I think sometimes we take it for granted that it’s only happening in Liverpool.

“I drive in from my home in Wavertree to the city centre which is four miles and on the worse mornings, it takes 20 minutes and at best 12 to 15 minutes.

“People living in Manchester or Birmingham would be over the moon with times like that.

“Liverpool has not got a problem with congestion, and the infrastructure that has been created has aided.”

He said drivers also needed to be given credit for changing their routes and patience during works.

He also praised Merseytravel for the improvement that had been made in public transport that kept people out of cars.

Cllr Anderson added: “At times it has been an embarrasing saga, let’s be thankful that it’s complete.”
