Warrington schoolboy drowns in reservoir

A WARRINGTON schoolboy drowned in a reservoir just hours after sitting his GCSEs.

Nigeria-born Temi Abimbola got into difficulty while swimming in Walton Reservoir near Warrington with friends.

Witnesses said they saw him jump in the water but fail to reappear.

Rescue units were sent but despite a thorough search, did not find Temi.

His body was later recovered by police divers.

John Sharples, headteacher of Sir Thomas Boteler high school where he was a pupil, said that Temi “was a wonderful young man who had made great progress” since coming to the school.

“He was a fine athlete, with a conscientious attitude to work, a caring nature, a mischievous sense of humour and sound moral principles, which he would champion vigorously.

“This led him to be universally liked and respected by staff and pupils.”

Temi had sat his English GCSE on Tuesday morning before heading to the reservoir.

Temi's death has promted the emergency services to warn of the danger of open water swimming.
