Band of brothers go marching home to Wirral

A BAND of proud brothers marched through their home town.

Birkenhead brothers Chris, 23, Mike, 21 and 19-year-old Darren Kilby have served in Iraq with the 1st Battalion of the Mercian Regiment.

But on Friday, they enjoyed stepping out in safer territory as the battalion exercised its freedom of the town.

Lance Corporal Chris Kilby said: “It is great to march through your home town.Š I have done it a few times before, but every time has been great.”

Mike Kilby added:Š”I enjoyed it, especially seeing so many people around cheering and clapping – it makes you proud to serve in the British Army.”

ŠFriday’s parade in Birkenhead was the last of six 'freedom' parades carried out by 1st Mercian Regiment having already marched en masse through Ellesmere Port, Chester, Congleton, Runcorn and Nantwich.Š

The battalion traditionally recruits its soldiers from Cheshire and the Wirral.Š
