Lord Mayor’s pageant a bright spot on a gloomy day
LIVERPOOL’s Lord Mayor enjoyed a samba with dancers in bikinis during his environment themed pageant through the city streets on Saturday.
Councillor Mike Storey praised the enthusiasm, energy and professionalism of all those who took part in the Lord Mayor’s Pageant, saying he was “quite nervous” beforehand but “the excitement of the kids really spurred me on”.
The weather didn’t bring much colour to Liverpool over the weekend, but those who took part refused to let that dampen their spirits, filling the city with bright carriages, sparkling acrobats and a rainbow of dance troupes.
This year’s pageant revolved around Liverpool’s Year of the Environment, with different sections delivering diverse messages.
There was a solar section to reflect the power of the sun and a rainforest theme focusing on endangered species and deforestation.
The ocean section represented the role oceans play in maintaining the earth’s balance, while the Antarctic section highlighted the effects of global warming and the cosmic theme represented the forces and particles that balance the world.
