A GLOBETROTTING artist locked up by African police and accused of being an illegal immigrant was freed yesterday.
Graham Hughes, 30, was thrown into a filthy Cape Verde jail on Wednesday.
He had sailed to Santiago, the biggest of the Cape Verde islands, from Senegal with a group of fishermen as part of a charity mission to visit every country in the world.
But, after setting foot on Santiago he was suspected of entering the country illegally and arrested.
Yesterday, a judge ruled there was no case for him to answer.
Graham spent last night in a bed and breakfast waiting to see if he would be deported back to Senegal.
Meanwhile, his West Derby-based father, also called Graham, toasted his release with a large Scotch.
