Lord Mayor and two predecessors to take part in Liverpool Triathlon

THE Lord Mayor of Liverpool will join forces with two of his predecessors to compete in the city’s first mass-participation triathlon.

Cllrs Mike Storey, Steve Rotheram and Paul Clark will take part in the high-profile event along the city’s waterfront on Sunday, June 21.

They will race over Olympic distances in three disciplines – a 1.5km swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run.

Organisers hope the three Lord Mayors will be joined by around 1,000 people of all abilities.

Participants will swim, cycle and run while taking in some of Liverpool’s most iconic views.

Sights will include the city’s World Heritage Site, including the Liver Building, Albert Dock and the Echo Arena Liverpool. The inaugural Liverpool Triathlon will be the first time the Lord Mayor and his predecessors have taken part in a triathlon.

Cllr Storey said: “Our training has been going well and we are all looking forward to the big day.

“It is fantastic there is an event of this nature taking place in the city.

“People of all abilities can take part, from professionals to novices.

“Even if you are just there to cheer people on, it will be a great spectacle.”
