MORE than 100 anti-BNP activists marched through Liverpool in the protest at Nick Griffin’s shock election to the European parliament.

The furious demonstrators included Socialist Worker Party members, Green Party activists and outraged members of the public who gathered outside Liverpool town hall at 5.30pm yesterday.

Tom Crane, Green candidate for St Michael’s, told the crowds Mr Griffin’s election was a “massive blow” and gave his far-right views an “unwarranted veneer of political respectability”.

He said: “Griffin does not just exploit people’s feelings of insecurity in hard times, he spreads dangerous myths, which create the feelings of insecurity in the first place.”

Organiser Dan Swain said he had pulled together the protest at short notice through email and online networks set up during the European elections.
