Waterloo park pavilion in running for makeover led by Sir Terence Conran

TWO design icons could be let loose on a rundown park pavilion if it wins a national contest.

The structure in Victoria Park, Waterloo, is up against nine other worthy community spaces bidding to win the prestigious makeover.

It was shortlisted from hundreds of entries into the Mydeco competition, which aims to show the impact good design can have on a neighbourhood.

The winner will be handed over to designers Sir Terence Conran, who founded the Habitat chain of shops, and Tara Bernerd, who runs a top design firm in London.

The Friends of Victoria Park now hope the park pavilion will be chosen ahead of its rivals.

Libby Kitt, 67, of Crosby, entered the park into the competition.

She said: “There are plans to improve the amenities in the park and we want the pavilion to become the focus.

“I saw an advert to redesign a space in the community, so I contacted my local councillor to get permission.”

Libby said the pavilion had not changed for more than 25 years.

She said: “There was a flood in the winter and water came through the roof.

“It is very neglected and a sorry sight.”
