Wirral libraries public inquiry chairman compared with Anne Robinson

A FEW minutes of light relief crept into the library inquiry as it drew to a close yeserday.

Brian Kendall had followed Wallasey Conservatives Leah Fraser and Paul Hayes giving evidence on behalf of Wallasey Village and Seacombe Libraries Campaign Group.

He managed to tell the inquiry the consultation on closures “seems to be a sham” before being brought back to direct evidence by chairman Sue Charteris.

Like many others, he tried to push at the boundaries set by Ms Charteris.

At the end of his evidence, Mr Kendall asked if she could pass a message on to the newly-appointed culture secretary.

He said the public inquiry process was “not very user-friendly”.

He said: “Can you say how unfortunate this process is, that turns Sue – who seems such a passive lady – into the public inquiry version of Anne Robinson?”

On seeing Ms Charteris’s expression, he quickly added “but much more attractive”, to which she responded: “Good recovery.”
