HUNDREDS of mourners at the funeral of a British soldier who was killed by an explosion in Afghanistan heard he paid “the highest price” serving his country.
Jordan Rossi, 22, from Baildon, West Yorkshire, died after he was caught in the explosion near Sangin, in Helmand Province, on May 23.
Friends, family and colleagues yesterday paid tribute to the “fun-loving” sapper, from 38 Engineer Regiment, at the funeral service at the United Reformed Church, in Saltaire, West Yorkshire.
More than 500 people packed into the circular-fronted church, while more gathered around speakers in the grounds to listen to the 45-minute service.
Padre David Adams, an Army chaplain based at Catterick Garrison, said: “He died in the service of others and the service of this country, doing the job he loved and was trained for and was so proud to do.”
