IRELAND captain William Porterfield refused to be discouraged after his side’s eight-wicket defeat to defending champions India in the World Twenty20 last night.

The Irish, surprise Super Eights qualifiers, were brought back to earth with a bump after being restricted to 112 for eight, thanks largely to figures of four for 19 from man-of-the-match Zaheer Khan.

“They landed the ball in the right areas and we nicked a couple, but made a few bad shots,” Porterfield said.

“It doesn’t help when you keep losing wickets off that but I thought we fought back really well at the end and it was fairly competitive.”
