Announcing the new funding, justice minister and Garston MP Maria Eagle told the Daily Post: “We have to do all we can to stop young people entering the criminal justice system.
“We know the vast majority of the 12m young people in England and Wales are law-abiding members of their community, but there are hardcore problems which need addressing.
“It is about showing the community these problems will be dealt with so we can reduce crime and the fear of crime in our neighbourhoods.”
Last year, the number of young people entering the criminal justice system for the first time fell by 8%, with re-offending rates down by almost 20%, according to official figures.
Overall crime in Merseyside currently stands at its lowest level since 1985.
