Peel Holdings offer support to new bridge across River Mersey

PEEL Holdings, which operates John Lennon Airport and the Port of Liverpool, has written in support of the bridge project.

A letter sent by strategic planning director Peter Nears to the inquiry said the new bridge was of “strategic importance”.

He said: “The Mersey Gateway bridge will greatly enhance the region’s road network, cut congestion at a critical crossing point of the River Mersey and improve accessibility across Merseyside, Cheshire and north Wales.

“Consequently, it is of great strategic importance to the performance and growth of the North West’s economy.”

His letter stated the bridge will improve journey times to the airport and benefit freight movements to and from the port.

It also said it would promote development in Speke and Garston, and make Liverpool International Business Park more attractive.
