A MERSEYSIDE man is the chief suspect in a murder investigation following the death of his ex-girlfriend.
Twenty-year-old Avril Flanagan is believed to have been stabbed 40 times and had her throat cut.
Her body was found in an apartment in Torrevieja, south of Alicante, Spain.
Her former partner, Alan Daulby, 24, formerly of Blundellsands, disappeared following her death on May 29.
His father passed details of his car registration to the Spanish authorities.
A high-speed chase by the Guardia Civil ensued 100 miles away in Oliva, near Valencia, where Daulby was eventually arrested.
Irish barmaid Avril, known as Abby, was found by her mother, Barbara, who ran a bar in Cabo Roig with husband Gerry.
