A “BRIGHT” 15-year-old boy died suddenly only days after complaining of a headache, an inquest heard yesterday.
Chris Salmon was a “very loving, caring boy” according to his mother, Julie, regularly achieving top grades while studying at Calday Grange grammar school, in Wirral.
But, on January 30, he started suffering with a headache.
Coroner’s officer Arthur Flowers told the Wallasey inquest: “On Friday, January 30, Christopher complained of a headache but went to school as usual.
“He returned home in the afternoon feeling unwell and on Saturday he reported he was feeling a little better.” But, by the Sunday, his situation changed and he did not go to school on the Monday.
Mr Flowers said the next day Chris, of Dryfield Close, Greasby, was taken to the doctor’s, where he “was fully examined and was diagnosed with a respiratory viral infection”.
But medication was not prescribed and he was advised to take paracetamol and drink fluids.
On February 4, he “continued to experience fever symptoms” and the next day reported pain in his legs.
Christopher was taken to Arrowe Park hospital, where he was found to be “extremely dehydrated” and his condition rapidly deteriorated.
Soon, he was “only able to respond by nodding his head” and by 6.20pm that day, “there was no output”.
