Wirral three cleared of laundering cheques worth £14,000 at Liverpool Crown Court

THREE people have been cleared of laundering cheques worth £14,000 from a charity organisation.

Barbara Clarke, 21, Colin Dignam Gill, 35, and David Smith, 44, were all accused of converting criminal property by cashing the cheques which belonged to the Country Park Youth and Community Association in Croxteth Park.

The charitable youth organisation had secured £25,000 from the council for youth facilities .

But money from the account was paid into bank accounts belonging to the three accused.

They all denied the charges and were found not guilty by jurors at Liverpool crown court following a three-day trial.

Clarke, of Dundonald Street, Birkenhead, told the court she had cashed the cheques on behalf of a man she was seeing.

Both Dignam-Gill, of Wetstone Lane, Birkenhead, and Smith, Edenhurst Avenue, Wallasey, told how they had received the cheques after selling valuables.
