Blood link to age

SCIENTISTS may be able to use a simple blood test to determine a patient’s suitability for procedures such as organ transplants and chemotherapy, studies suggested.

Researchers said they have solved “technical hurdles” to enable them to develop a blood test to detect a key protein which is linked to the ageing of cells.

By determining a patient’s molecular age, rather than just their chronological age, doctors would be able to assess their suitability for organ transplants, chemotherapy and the chances of their recovery after surgery.
