Gym equipment installed in Liverpool parks to keep elderly fit

“Liverpool still has huge heart problems and we have one of the highest levels of heart disease in the country. Ideas like these will only help to improve fitness”.

The Primary Care Trust has spent over £100,000 on the initiative, and claims that anyone over 12 years old can use the equipment, not just pensioners.

Gideon Ben-Tovim, Chair of Liverpool PCT, said: “This is the latest example of how the PCT is investing in fitness facilities to encourage people – both young and old – to live a healthier lifestyle.

“We are determined to make it easier for people to get active, particularly those who would not normally go to a gym.”

Members of Clubmoor’s Active Ageing Group tried out the equipment yesterday.
