Gym equipment installed in Liverpool parks to keep elderly fit

LIVERPOOL parks have been fitted with outdoor gym equipment in an attempt to tackle the health and fitness issues of the city’s pensioners.

The facilities have been provided by Liverpool city council and the Primary Care Trust (PCT).

The idea emerged as the result of lengthy research on the exercise habits of older residents.

The city council and the Primary Care Trust found that the older generation are very unlikely to use a conventional gym, but are much more likely to exercise outdoors.

As a result, the city council and the PCT have had gym equipment installed in Croxteth Country Park, Dovecot Park, Calderstones Park, Otterspool Park, Everton Park and Walton Hall Sports Centre.

Liverpool city council’s executive member for the environment, Cllr Berni Turner, said: “These outdoor gyms are really important and will improve the health of older residents in the city.
