MERSEYSIDE health chiefs moved to reassure the public last night after a hospital worker tested positive for swine flu.
The man, an office worker at Wirral’s Arrowe Park hospital, was originally told he had tested negative but later found out a mistake had been made and he had actually contracted the disease.
He was given the correct test results just hours after he returned to work.
Health chiefs stressed the man was not infectious and his colleagues are not at risk.
The man had been off work until this week with suspected swine flu and was being treated with anti-viral medication.
He was given his positive H1N1v diagnosis on Monday having been given the all-clear to return to the hospital.
A female hospital worker who had come into contact with the man has been off sick from work for five days with suspected symptoms.
Her and members of her family fear they may need to be tested.
However Health Protection Agency North West bosses gave reassurances that the man who tested positive for swine flu was not infectious when he returned to work.
