THOUSANDS of children from across the city got to watch live tennis is their own back yard.
The courts at Calderstones Park brought the sport alive for 8,000 schoolchildren.
Kids Day launched Liverpool’s International Tennis Tournament which starts today and runs until Sunday.
Yesterday’s event was aimed at encouraging young people into the sport and gave them an opportunity to see tennis stars in action.
Laura Robson, 2008 Wimbledon Junior Girls singles champion and UK no 1 took centre stage in what will be her final warm up before the All England Championships.
Laura took on Canada’s rising star Eugenie Bouchard during the centre court match which was attended by the Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Mike Storey.
It included speeches by Tournament Director Anders Borg and leader of Liverpool City Council, Councillor Warren Bradley.
Now in its 9th year, the traditional tennis tournament will attract thousands of visitors.
