Merseyside Police join forces with faith groups for new anti crime initiative
A NEW initiative to tackle gun and knife crime will see police working directly with church communities.
Merseyside police launched its “Redeeming Our Communities” event last night at the ECHO Arena in front of an audience of 5,000.
Special guests included Gee Walker and The Bill actor Andrew Lancel.
The event establishes new links between Merseyside Police and the Christian church network City Links, which has had success with the scheme in Manchester.
It aims to reduce gun and knife crime by churches working in partnership with the police to rid communities of violent crime and disorder.
The show featured performances by Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists MD Productions, who performed a routine highlighting the dangers of gun and knife crime.
Gee Walker founded the Anthony Walker Foundation to promote racial harmony and diversity through sport, music and education following her son’s murder in Huyton, in July, 2005.
