New city rail service proposed for Liverpool-Skelmersdale link

SKELMERSDALE could be re-connected to the rail network, providing services for thousands of travellers, a new report from the Association of Train Operating Companies has suggested.

The report, Connecting Communities, shows a potential economic case for a new service linking the town with Liverpool.

It suggests a new station could be built at Skelmersdale with the possibility of an additional station at Westhead and a 3-mile stretch of line reconstructed.

It is one of a number of routes that AOTC has proposed for the next five to ten years.
