Son held dying father - Huyton man accused of murder

In a witness statement, she said: “Robert was pacing up and then, then he was on his hands and knees crouched over the body with his hands on his shoulders shaking him as if trying to wake him.”

She rushed down to help Mr Monteith junior, now 22, adding: “He just kept saying ‘he’s dead’. He then began to speak to his dad, saying ‘wake up dad’.”

A post-mortem showed he had been bludgeoned with a heavy object at least four times to the head, causing massive brain injuries. Mr Monteith’s former football team-mate, Stephen Keogh, 44, denies murder.

The court has heard Keogh, of Lyme Cross Road, Huyton, was having an “inappropriate relationship” with Mr Monteith’s wife, Anne.

She was away in Dublin with friends at the time of the attack.

The case continues.
