Son held dying father - Huyton man accused of murder

A SON cradled his dying father’s battered body after finding him in the front garden of their home.

Robert Monteith had been drinking in a local Rainhill pub with his father, Kevin, after playing a game of football.

But Liverpool Crown Court heard Mr Monteith, 42, left the pub just three hours before his 21-year-old son.

Mr Monteith junior yesterday told jurors how, as he approached the bottom of their garden, he saw his father’s blood-soaked body lying at the bottom of the driveway.

He told: “I just lifted his head up and held his hand.”

Mr Monteith junior, who had worked alongside his electrician father, told how he ran into their Holt Lane house and searched every room.

He said: “I just thought somebody had broken in because the front door was open.

“I went to look for intruders.”

But he found no-one inside the property and went back to his father. He was helped by next-door neighbour Helen Redmond, who heard his cries.
