BOSSES at Southport and Formby hospital want to build a helipad.
The helicopter landing site would be outside Southport Hospital’s accident and emergency wing.
The plans will be discussed by Sefton councillors at a planning committee next Wednesday.
Sefton officers approved the plans but said the hours helicopters can land at the Town Lane site should be restricted.
If passed, medics will only be able to use it between 5.30am and 10pm and the number of flights to and from the pad would be limited to 56 in any four week period.
Noise levels at take off and landing would be more than double the threshold level for “restful sleep” suggested by the World Health Organisation.
The pilot currently lands at a field at King George V College, on Scarisbrick New Road, when transferring emergency patients to and from Southport.
Hospital chiefs said the helipad is needed so casualties can be treated within the “golden hour” of first being injured.
