Merseyside hospitals lower MRSA and C difficile rates

At Arrowe Park, MRSA cases dropped from seven to five during the same period.

Diane Wake, Director of Infection Prevention and Control at the Royal said: “This is an excellent result for us and our patients.

“Patient safety is at the top of our agenda and we will continue to work towards even lower rates.”

Gill Core, Director of Nursing at Whiston, was also pleased, saying: “Our results show a significant improvement from the same winter period as last year.

“This reflects the commitment and sustained effort by our staff to tackle infection.”

Nationally reports of C. diff have decreased by 36% compared to the same quarter last year, but have increased by 6% compared to October to December 2008. MRSA cases have dropped by 29% compared to the same period last year, but have increased by 2.1% since the October to December period.
