PORTUGUESE youngster Michelle Larcher de Brito has plenty in common with Wimbledon Junior champion Laura Robson.
Both have been granted wildcards to next week’s Wimbledon Championships, both were born in January, barely a year apart – and both are fiercely ambitious.
But Larcher de Brito insisted they would not get involved in a personal duel at SW19 next week.
“Just because she’s the same age I don’t see her as being in competition with me. I haven’t thought much about her,” admitted de Brito.
“I don’t try and do better than anybody else. I just try and play for myself.
“It would be great for her to do well because she’s English, but at the same time I want to do well.
“I know Laura got a wildcard and they had to make an exception for her because they’re not supposed to give wildcards to players outside the top 250.
“But she deserves it because she’s won Junior Wimbledon.”
